本研究的目的是發展適合本國使用之公民科技素養調查工具,深入了解我國公民科技素養現況,逐步建構基礎資料。研究的設計包括發展、修訂並效化研究工具內容,以對科學的理解程度(understanding of science), 科學資訊來源及興趣(information sources and interest in science), 以及對科學的態度(attitudes toward science-related issues)三個面向來做評量。本調查研究將收集二千位 18-70 歲的成人樣本。本研究第一年以及第二年將開發題目,結合公民所熟悉如健康、自然資源、環境、危害以及尖端科技等議題,以及本土性及國際性研究觀點作命題設計。研究工具的發展以及調查的結果除撰寫文章分享給社會大眾外,並將建構網站,將研究工具、相關數據及資料提供各領域有興趣的學者專家使用,以期逐漸建檔我國公民科學素養的基礎資料,作為未來教育及政府決策的參考。
The purpose of this study is to develop a questionnaire to evaluate civic scientific literacy. The research design involves the development, modification, and validation of the test items in the instrument to evaluate public knowledge, competencies, and attitudes toward science. This study will survey approximately 2000 citizens aged 18-70 to investigate three aspects of scientific literacy: (1) understanding of science, 2) information sources and interest in science, and 3) attitudes toward science-related issues. The construction of test items, in first and second year mainly, will draw from contemporary science-related issues occurred in both local and global communities. A web site will be created to make our database available for researchers with different research perspectives and interests. Through our research framework, we aim to create a systematic and ongoing evaluative mechanism to identify indicators that drive the trend and change of public attitude and understanding of science. The findings will provide important implications for education and government policy-making decision.
