Purchasing Ethics, Unethical Pro-organizational Negotiation Behavior, Antecedents, Consequences, Organizational Identification.
Purchasing negotiation ethics is considered as one important factor in maintaining long-term buyer-supplier relationships. Many studies have analyzed ethical issues in purchasing negotiation; however, most of them assumed purchasing professionals’ unethical activities are intended to harm organizations. Little attention was paid to purchasing professionals’ unethical pro-organizational negotiation behavior. In certain situations, engagement in some unethical activities may be intended to benefit organizations, known as unethical pro-organizational behavior. To fill the research gap, this project attempts to explore the antecedents and consequences of unethical pro-organizational purchasing negotiation behavior. This project took purchasing professionals in Taiwan and China as research subjects and utilized the questionnaire survey method to investigate the antecedent effect of organizational identification on unethical pro-organizational negotiation behavior for purchasing professionals. The moderating effect of construed partnership of suppliers on the antecedent relation is also analyzed. This project explored as well whether role overload is a probable consequence that may result from unethical pro-organizational negotiation behavior for purchasing professionals, and examined the moderating effects of work group cohesion. According to the questionnaire survey results, the proposed research hypotheses are supported. There are some difference between purchasing professionals in Taiwan and China in the effects of antecedents and consequences. Research findings contribute to the research on purchasing negotiation ethics, and promote further understanding to the role of organizational identification in unethical pro-organizational behavior.
