 本計畫之目的在瞭解東南亞裔新移民女性之子女的學校成就、學校生活感受、家長參與、與家庭背景對於子女學習成就的影響,以及追蹤三年之後的變化。透過對 照組的蒐集,本研究控制子女之父親(亦即新移民女性的配偶)之相同教育背景,我們企圖瞭解東南亞裔新移民女性的家庭與子女在學校學業成就所經歷的路徑內容 為何?是否與本地家庭有不一樣的模式?

本研究最後結論新移民子女在校表現大體上低於本地子女之表現,然而約2、3個名次的差異,在實質上並無意義,且趨勢呈現新移民子女在國語成就上之退步 較本地子女緩和,兩組差異逐漸縮小。在控制父親教育背景之後,新移民子女之情意、成就、學校人際、管教等相互影響上,與相同背景之本地子女類似。關於新移 民子女之成就以及生活適應的憂慮,研究者認為應該擴大為社會上有類似社經背景且相對弱勢族群之關懷。

As the number of women immigrants from Southeast Asia increases at Taiwan for the recent ten years, these newly coming immigrants tended to be stigmatized as disabled mothers and received severe cultural biases. Under the viewpoint of cultural pluralism, this three-year based research is planning to base arguments regarding their situation on empirical evidence by investigating the relationships among the second generations\' self efficacy, teacher-parent interactions, and the school lives. As our target population is about 16000 students who were born by Southeast Asian female new immigrants, our sample for the second year of the project were 2153 students from 6 areas of Taiwan. The results based on our data from the first year were: 1. Our target sample students performed worse than the local sample students by about 2 score points and 1-2 rank order. The difference tended to be larger for students at the sixth grade. 2. The target sample students were not different from the local students on learning efficacy, learning methods/habits/attitudes, and self efficacy. 3. The relationship between achievement and attitudes were about .2 to .3. The coefficients were not different between target sample and local sample, but between the areas of different industrialization. 4. The Southeast Asian female new immigrants were not different from the local mothers on parenthood, spous relationship, and housework loading. However, they tend to be more regressive on child-punishing, spouse conflict management, and supporint of house work from spouse. As the third year of the project is coming, we are facing the following challenges: lack of research assistants, questionnaire disturbance, and the deficit of project grant. We have proposed strategies to cope with the challenges.
