 本研究利用電話訪問取得台灣近七成加油站有關加油現金與非現金折讓,以及加油站基本資料。其後透過計量模型,分析加油站的加油折讓與各相關因素的關係。 我們發現:本文發現:(1)在控制市場需求與供給條件,區域效果及油槍規模群聚效果後,500公尺內競爭者家數增加一家時,加油折讓顯著提高;(2)該競 爭效果主要來自於販售相同油源之加油站業者,顯示消費者加油時之品牌忠誠;以及(3)加油站市場當存在加盟業者時,競爭激化,顯示加盟店的設立對市場競爭 的威脅與影響,同時也說明上游勾結難度的增加。

This project analyzed the discount behavior of Taiwan’s gas stations. We interviewed all Taiwan’s gas stations based on a three-day telephone interview survey, in which around 70% of them were successfully interviewed. Information, such as firm characteristics, best dollar and non-dollar discounts when consumers were fuelling gasoline, was collected. We employed an econometric model to analyze the determinants of the discount behavior when consumers were fueling gasoline. We found that within 500 meters, an additional competitor significantly increased the best discount offered when consumers were fueling gasoline. This result holds even if we control the demand and supply side conditions in a market, the area effects and firm size clustering effects. In addition, the main source of competition for a gas station is from competitors that purchased gasoline from the same petrochemical company. This shows that there may exist the brand royalty in Taiwan’s gas station industry. Lastly, we found that privately owned franchised gas stations significantly enhance the competition. This implies that the entry of a privately owned franchised gas stations do have impacts on the market competition and do increase the difficulty of collusion among upstream petrochemical companies.
