學生中途輟學對教育體系及整體社會造成莫大的影響及資源的浪費,故有必要研究其防治的方法,其中又以如何把學生的心留在學校,預防更多的學生走出學校,才是最根本之道。國內外有不少的研究是針對輟學原因進行探討,而學生中輟學原因可分成個人因素、家庭因素、學校因素、及社會因素。本研究目的是在編製一具良好信效度的國中學生輟學傾向之篩檢量表,並建立對照常模及切截分數,可提供給學校在學生初入學時或定期檢視學生是否有中途輟學之傾向,對於屬於高危險群的學生可以立即展開輔導,降低輟學發生的比率。

Students leave school before graduation can make great impact on the education system and the society and can be seen as a waste of resources. Therefore, it is important to investigate how to prevent school dropouts. One of the most fundamental strategies is to find out those students who have high probability of dropping out of school before graduation. A number of studies have done to identify possible factors that influence school dropout. The factors examined include school-, family-, personal-, & social-related factors. The goal of this project is to develop a reliable and valid screening instrument for prediction of junior high school dropout, and also to estabilish local norm and cutoff scores. This screening instrument can be used to identify those students with potential to drop out when they first enter junior high school. Prevention programs can therefore be provided for these students to keep them in schools until graduation.
