對於 台灣高科技產業網絡的研究,儘管其生產網絡會隨著產品和規模大小的不同而有所不同,但其仍有共同的特徵。對於大型和中型的廠商而言,其生產網絡大多為中心 衛星的體系,且中心廠和衛星廠的信任關係主要來自於理性計算和持續的交易,而非一般所謂的關係概念。此外在於外包網絡的控制,通常都是維持兩家以上的合 作,且以價格、品質和服務為主要考量。這不同於紡織產業的小企業網絡的特質,強調以合作的信任關係來自於社會連帶和地緣關係,也意謂其網絡管理是仰賴社會 控制而非制度化的機制。 經由技術的昇級,台灣的產業網絡產生的轉變,可說是從家族企業轉變到企業家族的過程。

In studying the organizational networks of Taiwan's hi-tech industry, we found that although the production networks of the industry vary in nature depending on their sizes and products, they still have some common features. For large and medium-sized firms, their production networks mostly are center- satellite systems. The relationship between hi-tech firms and their subcontractors is primarily for the sake of trust generated by rational calculation and repeated transactions, rather than being based on the concept of traditional quanxi. In controlling subcontracting networks, it is common to allocate orders among several subcontractors depending on the price, quality control and services that they offer. This is very different from the small firm network characteristic of the textile industry, where " family" firms, in the broad sense, build their subcontracting systems based on the trust generated by social and geographical ties, which enables them to manage networks by means of social control, rather than relying on institutionalized mechanisms. The network structures of Taiwanese industries change significantly in the process of technological upgrading. This change can be summed up as "moving from family business to business family".
